A Florida man has been charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly threatening to “kill” his wife’s cat.
It’s not the first time he’s been charged for allegedly harming animals, but this latest case appears to be unique.
The Miami Herald reports that Miami-Dade police arrested Joseph J. Alston, 45, on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Alstone, who lives in the 3200 block of S. W. Miami Avenue, was arrested by police after an incident that took place around 3 p.m.
Police said Alston threatened to “cut her throat” with a knife.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the cat “unresponsive” in Alston’s bedroom, according to the Herald.
He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The cat was later removed from Alston and his home and sent to a veterinarian for an autopsy, police said.
Alston was released on a $250,000 bond.
He remains in jail on $100,000 bail.
Alstone has not been arrested for the cat’s death.
