What do you need to know about the ocean before heading out on a hunt for white fish?
Read more In a study published in Nature Communications, scientists from the University of Florida and the University and State of New York used data from the NOAA Fisheries Science Center’s Whitefish Vessels (WSV) database to quantify the amount of fish in the oceans.
The study found that whitefish are highly valued for their medicinal value.
The researchers said the whitefish population has grown from less than 3,000 individuals in 1998 to more than 1,200 individuals in 2014.
The study also found that the white fish population has declined in some areas, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico, as ocean temperatures have warmed.
“The whitefish fishery has been declining in some parts of the Gulf due to increased pollution and the depletion of fish stocks,” said co-author David O’Connell, an associate professor of marine biology at the University.
“The decline of the whitefishes is a key driver of the decline of fish populations in the Great Lakes.”
O’Connell and co-authors analyzed the fishery data for a year between 1998 and 2014.
They compared the number of whitefish harvested by the white vessels with the amount and size of fish harvested by all fishing vessels operating in the region.
They also analyzed the fish harvested from the WSV database, which records the number and size and types of fish caught.
O’Sullivan and coauthor Mark Nye, an assistant professor of biology at Georgia Tech, say the study shows that the fisherys capacity to recover fish stocks is limited.
They wrote in a press release that they plan to expand the research in the coming years.
“We have seen an increase in the size of white fish populations due to overfishing,” O’Sullivan said.
“We need to be aware of how we can minimize these impacts.
Whitefish have a lot of health benefits.
We need to recognize that.”
Oquanine, which is a naturally occurring amino acid found in whitefish, plays a role in regulating the immune system and regulating the production of red blood cells.
Fish are more susceptible to aquaculture, which has become the most popular way to harvest whitefish.
